SF Studios has released the official teaser for the anticipated Norwegian feature film Beloved (Kjærast), directed by Erik Poppe(The Emigrants, Utøya: July 22) and written by Nobel-prize winning Norwegian author and playwright, Jon Fosse. It marks the first feature based on an original screenplay written directly for cinema by Fosse. The film opens in Norway on September 18, 2026.
“It has been a great pleasure and a privilege to work so closely with Jon Fosse on this screenplay. Translating his quiet, musical universe to film has been an artistic journey I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
Erik Poppe, Director
Shot on location in Western Norway, the film (formerly known as Bad Moon Rising) uses the dramatic landscapes and nature as a quiet narrative force, where changing light, wind, and sea mirror the characters’ emotions and reinforce the film’s understated intensity. Kristi‑Helene Giæver Engeberg(War Sailor) andLeo Magnus de la Nuez (Beforeigners) play the lead roles as Gerd and Asle, a couple who find each other, build a family together, and slowly drift apart as the distance between them grows.

Synopsis
Told in Fosse’s hallmark minimalist style, the unsaid is conveyed through sparse dialogue, surprising shifts, and a brutally beautiful landscape. She and He find each other, become parents to a boy, and for a while, their happiness is complete. But her roots in their homeland run deeper than his, and the distance between them grows. Loneliness eats away, love fades, language slowly disintegrates, and in their house farthest out to sea in the west, the inexorable question is asked: – How much distance can love endure before it bursts?

“Beloved touches on something universal — closeness and separation, what is said and what remains unspoken. At the same time, the film has clear international potential. Fosse’s voice is deeply rooted in Western Norway, yet resonates globally.”
