The fifth and final season of the acclaimed Norwegian crime series Wisting is set to premiere on Viaplay on April 13, 2025, as this year’s featured Easter crime series on the streaming platform. Sven Nordin (Børning, Elling) returns for his fifth outing as the beloved detective William Wisting, delivering what promises to be the strongest chapter yet in the series’ run.
“To be part of the Wisting universe, and to be able to portray William Wisting with all that entails, is a great honor. I am humbled by all who have contributed to the success. So many talented people both in front and behind the camera. It has really been a joy to come to the recording, every single day. Wisting thinks I have everything a good crime series should have. Especially exciting for this season is that Wisting gets to experience love, for the first time in the series. And the fact that it’s with Shelley Conn herself is extra cool. She is absolutely fabulous, both as an actress and in private. I’m very much looking forward to the launch and crossing my fingers for more seasons of Wisting.”

Teaming up with Sven Nordin is British actress Shelley Conn, celebrated for her roles in Bridgerton, Alex Rider, and Good Omens. Conn portrays Interpol agent Harriet Dunn, whose path crosses Wisting’s during a case that takes him to Vilnius. Their chemistry adds a new layer to the stoic detective’s story, setting the stage for a final chapter in this Nordic noir saga.

“It has been a privilege and an honor to work with Sven, as the legend he is. I’m a big Wisting fan, and I can’t believe how lucky I’ve been to work with so many great people, both the actors and Arild Frølich. And not only that, I also had the great honor of being Wisting’s first love meeting. So, I take that with me proudly.”

In this season, Wisting finds himself sidelined by a serious injury, only to be drawn back into action by an anonymous letter hinting at a miscarriage of justice in a decades-old murder case. The killing of 17-year-old Tone Vaterland, for which her ex-boyfriend was convicted, takes center stage as Wisting uncovers resistance from powerful figures within the police force. Adapted from Jørn Lier Horst’s novel Case 1569, the season blends gritty investigation with a fresh twist: Wisting’s first taste of romance.

The final season also boasts a stellar Norwegian cast, including Mads Ousdal, Thea Green Lundberg, Lars Berge, Kristian Repshus, Ellen Bendu, and Lea Meyer. Directed by Arild Frølich (Fatso, R.I.P Henry), all four episodes will drop simultaneously on Viaplay on April 13, with weekly airings on TV 3 starting April 15 at 9:30 PM.

Hege Skjerven Clausen, Viaplay’s programming editor, praises the series’ enduring appeal: “Nordic crime, and Wisting in particular, has captivated audiences across borders. This season stands out as our finest yet—a top-tier Norwegian Easter crime drama.”
