Few names are as synonymous with betrayal as Vidkun Quisling. The upcoming Norwegian mini-series Quisling brings this infamous chapter of history to life. The five-episode war drama starring acclaimed actors Gard B. Eidsvold (Troll), Lisa Carlehed (The Emigrants), and Anders Danielsen Lie (The Worst Person in the World), is set to debut on TV 2 and TV 2 Play in Norway on November 21, 2024.
Directed by Erik Poppe, known for his acclaimed work on The King’s Choice and Utoya: July 22, the series builds upon the narrative of his recent feature film, Quisling: The Final Days, which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, offering a deeper exploration of the events and characters. Described as Erik Poppe’s strongest work, the film has been well-received internationally.
Quisling is produced by Finn Gjerdrum and Stein B. Kvae at Paradox in Oslo, in co-production with TV 2. The series reunites the successful screenwriting duo Siv Rajendram Eliassen and Anna Bache-Wiig, known for Acquittedand Utoya: July 22, with Erik Poppe, writing the scripts for both his film and the series.

Vidkun Quisling was convicted of betrayal of his own country (Norway) during the second world war, and the series tells the story of the reckoning with the traitor, about his wife Maria’s struggle for her husband and his legacy, and about the priest Peder Olsen, who was appointed Quisling’s spiritual advisor during the trials.
The Quisling-series is a magnificent quality drama that we are very proud to present to our viewers on TV 2 Play and TV 2 Direkte. The story is taken from our own recent past, but contains elements that feel relevant even today, in light of the growing anti-democratic tendency we see around the world.

When Nazi Germany invaded Norway on April 9, 1940, Vidkun Quisling – leader of Nasjonal Samling (the National Unity Party) – carried out a coup d’état and declared himself prime minister.
Although Quisling was quickly pushed aside by the German occupying power, in 1942 he was installed as head of a puppet government at the mercy of the Germans. He was given the title of Minister President, a role he held until the end of the war in May 1945.
Because of Quisling’s actions in the April Days of 1940, his name has become a household name. Not only in Norway, but internationally: Being “a Quisling” has become synonymous with being a traitor. The series asks, who was Vidkun Quisling, and did he truly comprehend the magnitude of his betrayal? As his day of reckoning approached, did he seek redemption?
“Quisling” begins in the chaotic days of May 1945, when Germany is on the brink of capitulation. Quisling (played by Gard B. Eidsvold) and his ministers attempt to negotiate a peaceful transition of power in Norway. Amid the turmoil stands Vidkun Quisling’s wife, Maria (Lisa Carlehed), ready to fight and willing to die for her husband. Now she must be the strong one and not show doubts. In her eyes, he is a good man who deserves respect for his sacrifice for the Norwegian people – and she will help him fight.
At the same time, the bishop in Oslo receives a request from Quisling, who wants to speak to a man from the church. The bishop summons the hospital chaplain Peder Olsen (Anders Danielsen Lie), a man who himself has been scarred by the war. Can Peder Olsen help Quisling confront his mistakes and seek forgiveness?
