Season 2 of the very popular Danish crime series White Sands (original title: Hvide Sande) arrived on TV 2 Play on March 23 and is set to premiere on TV 2 March 30, 2025, in Denmark.

In the first season of White Sands (2021), the Danish homicide investigator Helene (Marie Bach Hansen) and her Danish-German investigator colleague Thomas (Carsten Bjørnlund) went undercover in Hvide Sande to find the perpetrator behind the brutal murder of a young German surfer. The crime series was a great success in Denmark and was sold to many countries.

The second season features two new main characters, the experienced homicide investigator Maj, portrayed by Anne Louise Hassing (The Idiots, The Hunt), and Allan Hyde (True Blood, Heart of Stone) in the role as the new and younger local police officer Bjørn. As the sun continues to shine over Hvide Sande, dark clouds gather, casting shadows over the tranquil paradise, as Greis, the local training ship captain, is found lifeless in his swimming pool, a victim of a brutal murder.

Synopsis

After a stress-induced blood clot, Maj moves from Aarhus to Hvide Sande to find peace and rebuild her relationship with her daughter, Ninna, and her grandchild, Villads, who live there. When the murder investigation into Greis stalls, Bjørn persuades Maj to assist, and as she tries to settle by the North Sea and grow closer to Ninna, the case and her old job pull her back in until she and Bjørn are hunting a killer. We meet Ninna (Frederikke Dahl) and shipbuilder Johannes (Anders Brink Madsen), along with returning actors from season 1 such as Jesper Asholt, Camilla Bendix, Bodil Jørgensen, Andreas Jessen, and Bjarne Henriksen.

“The ‘White Sands ‘series has a very special DNA, which was something that I was strongly attracted to when I agreed to write season 2. It is partly a crime series – and I, together with the writing team, have taken that extremely seriously. You should be excited about who has committed the murder and and try to find suspects along the way, otherwise we will not succeed with the series. But at the same time, it’s also a series that gives more space than normal to two other elements: Partly some real character stories, which also unfold outside the crime plot, and partly what I call ‘sun, fun and local colour’, where humor, nature, funny local characters and side stories are allowed to fill. You can say that the recipe for a good ‘White Sands’ season is 1/3 exciting crime, 1/3 relevant character stories and 1/3 sunny warmth, local colour and humor.

Maj (Anne Louise Hassing)

Maj, an experienced homicide investigator from Aarhus, has always prioritized her career over everything, including her daughter, Ninna, whom she raised alone. Six years ago, when Ninna became pregnant, Maj didn’t relent, causing a rift that ended their contact. Ninna now lives in Hvide Sande with her son, Villads, whom Maj has never met. After suffering a stress-induced blood clot, Maj moves to Hvide Sande to start anew, find peace, and reconnect with Ninna and Villads. She joins a writing course to pursue her old dream of writing a crime novel.

After their love faded, Bjørn remains alone, struggling to fit in. When a local murder case arrives, he sees it as his chance to prove himself and secure his return to Copenhagen—it’s his ticket back, and he’s determined to solve it.

When she unexpectedly meets her mother, Ninna must choose: keep her distant or reconnect? Has Maj truly changed, as she claims?
