The highly anticipated Swedish crime thriller series Blood Sacrifice (Blodsoffer) starring Jakob Oftebro (Hamilton) as lead investigator Thomas, and Peter Andersson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) as his father and former detective Alfred, is set to launch globally on Netflix on August 20.

The five-episode series is created by George Kay, known for Lupin, Criminal, Hijack, and The Long Shadow. The story follows a tense manhunt in Stockholm. When a killer begins targeting police officers, Thomas is forced to turn to his father for help, drawing the two into a tense and emotional race against time.

“Blood Sacrifice is an intense, emotional journey. Thomas is a man who has dedicated his life to the police, but when the attacks start targeting his own world, he’s forced to confront not only a brutal killer, but also the complicated relationship with his father. Playing him was both challenging and incredibly rewarding – it’s a story about justice, loyalty and what happens when the past refuses to stay buried.”

All episodes are directed by acclaimed Danish filmmaker Kristoffer Nyholm, known for directing episodes of Danish landmark dramas including The Killing, The Eagle and Taxa, as well as international series such as Taboo and Endeavour.

Synopsis

It is summertime in Stockholm, when the darkness never really creeps in. A 911 call is received, speaking of a home invasion. Two police officers are sent to the address, a summer house in the archipelago. Only to find there is no one there, at least not that they can see. The next day the bodies of the officers are found, a brutal crime. This is the start of a series of terrifying murders, all seemingly targeting police officers. The lead detective needs to ask his father, a retired detective, for help in cracking the case.

Watch the official trailer of Blood Sacrifice:

What drew me to Blood Sacrifice was the powerful mix of crime thriller and family drama. Playing a detective felt very close to my heart, especially as my own son is a police officer. I also really enjoyed working with Jakob — my fictional son this time — and I can’t wait for audiences to discover the tense series.”
