Norwegian Disaster Drama ‘La Palma’ Tops Netflix Global Charts

According to the streaming rank tracker FlixPatrol, the Norwegian limited disaster series La Palma today reached the No. 1 spot on the global ranking list TOP TV Shows on Netflix on December 16, 2024, just four days after its Netflix debut on December 12, 2024.

Starring Norwegian actors Anders Baasmo (Power Play, The Arctic Convoy) and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (Westworld, The Seed), the four-part drama series has reached the top spot on Netflix in 72 countries in record-breaking time, including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and Mexico, ahead of Black Doves and No Good Deed.

The drama series follows Norwegian tourists caught in a massive volcanic eruption on the picturesque Canary Islands. Facing toxic ash, lava, and chaos – they must fight for survival as they race to safety. 

Brought to the screen by the producer of the successful disaster films The Wave, The Quake, and The Burning Sea, and directed by Danish filmmaker Kasper Barfoed (The Nurse, The Chestnut Man), the grand-scale production of La Palma features stunning and captivating sequences filmed on the Canary Island of La Palma.

Led by Anders Baasmo and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, the Nordic ensemble cast for La Palma features Thea Sofie Loch Næss (So Long, Marianne, The Last Kingdom), Thorbjørn Harr (Sex, Power Play), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga), Johannes Joner (State of Happiness), Jorge de Juan (The Brothers Grimsby), Iselin Shumba Skjævesland (Ragnarok), and Amund Harboe (State of Happiness).
