The second season of the highly successful Danish thriller series Oxen, produced by SF Studios in partnershop with SquareOne Productions and Nafta Films, is now moving into post-production after wrapping up filming in Jutland, Copenhagen, Funen, and Lithuania. With a new storyline, expanded characters, and high-intensity drama, the upcoming season promises even bigger thrills and darker secrets.

The first season of the story of ex-elite soldier Niels Oxen, based on the book series OXEN by Danish author Jens Henrik Jensen, has captivated a large domestic and international audience. Following this success, the expectations are high for the upcoming season, set to premiere on TV 2 Denmark later this year, followed by a release on ZDF in Germany in 2026.

“The Danes loved the first season, so I’m incredibly happy that we get to share a new season with them. The series’ focus on power and democracy is as always relevant and important, while season 2 also offers an action-packed story when Oxen leaves the forest and goes on the run”.

Oxen 2 stars Jacob Lohmann (The Promised Land) as Niels Oxen, with a returning ensemble cast featuring Josephine Park (Doggystyle) PET as agent Margrethe Franck, Ellen Hillingsø (The Experiment) as PET chief Frigg Mossman, and Birgitte Hjort Sørensen (Automata) as the business woman Kajsa Corfitzen. The cast also includes Kristian Halken, Caspar Phillipson, Christian Tafdrup, Andreas Jebro, and Hanne Hedelund.

This season of Oxen plunges even deeper into a world of power and betrayal, as the secretive elite group Danehof intensifies its efforts to dismantle the government and undermine democracy. Both Oxen and Margrethe are forced into hiding, while PET chief Frigg Mossmann gets closer to her long-held, secret goal: exposing the dark forces of power. Meanwhile, Danehof’s newest member, Kajsa Corfitzen, emerges with her own unpredictable agenda.

“The story takes off just where we left our characters in the first season. The cat is out the bag and that turns the game board for Oxen, Margrethe, Frigg and Kajsa and how they look at themselves and the world. Within this season, we get to dive more into their backstories, while at the same time, we keep the high pace, the great production value and action sequences”.

Returning for the second season are the three-time Emmy Award-winning writing duo Mai Bostrøm (Livvagterne) and Peter Thorsboe (Livvagterne), who also penned the first season. Søren Balle (Bedrag, Equinox) directs, with Caroline Schlüter and Senia Dremstrup producing for SF Studios, in co-production with SquareOne Productions and Nafta Films for TV 2 Denmark and ZDF.

The series is supported by the West Danish Film Fund, FilmFyn, and Lithuania’s film tax incentive, with additional development backing from Creative Europe MEDIA. REinvent manages international sales.
