As the festive season of December approaches, Netflix is ready to release the Norwegian Christmas film The Snow Sister. Based on the beloved novel of the same name by Maja Lunde and Lisa Aisato, the film is set for its global premiere on Netflix on November 29, 2024.
The best-selling children’s Christmas book, published in 31 territories, has captured the hearts of readers worldwide. In addition to writing the original book, the successful Norwegian author Maja Lunde (The History of Bees) contributes her storytelling expertise as a co-writer for the film, alongside Siv Rajendram Eliassen (State of Happiness, Acquitted), who also co-wrote the recently released Norwegian war drama series Quisling.

Synopsis
Christmas Eve is approaching. It is also the day Julian turns eleven years old. Usually, it is the best day of the year, filled with the fantastic aroma of gingersnaps and tangerines, the sound of a crackling fire, the decorated Christmas tree, and the flickering candlelight. All the things that make up Christmas. But this year nothing is as usual. Julian and his family have a sadness over them, and Julian feels that Christmas has just been canceled. Then, one day, Julian meets the happy and Christmas-loving Hedvig and begins to believe that there will be Christmas after all. But there’s something strange about Hedvig’s house, and who is the old man who is lurking around the house all the time?

The film stars young actors Celina Meyer Hovland as Hedvig, and Mudit Gupta as Julian, the two central characters of the story. Supporting cast for The Snow Sister include Jan Sælid, Ole Steinkjer Øyen, Samsaya, Gunnar Eiriksson, and BalAdvika.
The Snow Sister is directed by Norwegian actress and filmmaker Cecilie Mosli (The Fortress, Mammon) and produced by Brede Hovland for Anonymous Content Nordic. Executive producer is Guri Neby.
The film features Siste Dans by Norwegian-Iranian singer and songwriter Delara. It was released on November 15, 2024.
