Danish Family Drama ‘Generations’ Unveils Dark Family Secrets – Premiering This April

Created by Anna Emma Haudal (Doggystyle, The Venus Effect), DR Drama‘s highly anticipated family mystery drama series Generations (Generationer) had its world premiere at the prestigious Series Mania Festival in Lille, France (March 21–28, 2025), and will debut in Denmark on DRTV on April 11 and DR1 on April 13, 2025.

Synopsis

Generations is a six-episode drama series about long-buried family secrets. The story unfolds with the discovery of a mummified infant in a Frederiksberg property. Living in the same building is 87-year-old Martha, who, to the great surprise of her family and community, confesses to the crime. With warmth, depth, and an air of mystery, the series follows a family whose world is suddenly turned upside down.

The Cast

The Danish ensemble cast for Generations stars acclaimed actress Ulla Henningsen, renowned for Matador and Kald mig Liva, portraying the 87-year-old woman whose shocking confession sets the story in motion. Starring alongside her are Anette Støvelbæk, known for Italian for Beginners and Badehotellet, Alice Bier Zandén, recently seen in Netflix’s Ehrengard: The Art of Seduction, and Rikke Eberhardt Isen, known for her role as Leyla in the Netflix series Chosen, each playing key roles in unraveling the family’s hidden secrets.

The Creators

The series is produced by DR Drama, the drama production division of Denmark’s national broadcaster, DR. It is created by Anna Emma Haudal, who serves as head writer and conceptual director for Generations. The script is co-written by Rune Schjøtt-Wieth, known for his contributions to The Rain and Dark Horse. The directorial team also includes Thomas Daneskov (Wild Men) and Ville Gideon Sörman (I See You). Producers Mie Andreasen (The Celebration) and Birgitte Rask (Doggystyle) are overseeing the production for DR Drama.
