Netflix has announced that renowned musicians and composers Nick Cave and Warren Ellis will craft the original score for the anticipated nine-episode Jo Nesbo’sDetective Hole (Norwegian title: Jo Nesbøs Harry Hole) Nordic noir crime series. Longtime collaborators and bandmates in Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds (as well as Grinderman), Cave and Ellis are internationally renowned for their brooding, atmospheric film and television scores, including The Proposition, The Road, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, and Wind River, making them a natural fit for Nesbø’s dark crime universe.

Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole is based on the popular Harry Hole crime novels by the acclaimed bestselling Norwegian author Jo Nesbø, who has written the screenplay and also serves as showrunner and executive producer for the series.

The series stars Tobias Santelmann (Exit, The Arctic Convoy) as detective Harry Hole, Joel Kinnaman (Altered Carbon, The Suicide Squad) as the corrupt detective Tom Waaler, and Pia Tjelta (Made in Oslo, State of Happiness) as Rakel Fauke, Harry Hole’s great love.
With over 113 days of filming across more than 160 locations in Oslo, including iconic sites like Restaurant Schrøder and Frognerbadet, the birthplace of dødsing (death diving), the series is believed to be the city’s longest television shoot to date. Principal photography began on May 23, 2024, and wrapped on December 6, 2024. The series is set to launch on Netflix on March 26, 2026.
