Filming has commenced on the SkyShowtime Original Swedish crime drama National Homicide Unit (Riksmord, working title) with production currently underway in the coastal city of Helsingborg in southern Sweden. The eight-part series stars Pernilla August (Star Wars), Jonas Karlsson (The Snowman), Nina Zanjani(Wallander), and Alexander Abdallah (Snabba Cash), and is inspired by real investigations carried out by Sweden’s national homicide unit, Riksmord.

The series follows an elite national team of homicide investigators deployed across Sweden to assist local police forces with the country’s most complex murder cases. Influenced by real events and authentic police procedure, National Homicide Unit centres on the work of this small, specialised unit as they move from region to region to solve crimes that exceed local resources.
Each investigation spans two episodes and is set in a distinct part of Sweden, with filming taking place across Skåne, Dalarna, and Norrbotten. Locations include Helsingborg, Höganäs, Luleå, and Borlänge, providing a varied visual backdrop ranging from coastal environments to deep forests and northern landscapes. Through its cases, the series explores the contradictions and darker undercurrents beneath Sweden’s outwardly orderly society.
“National Homicide Unit(Riksmord) (w/t) is an exciting addition to our growing slate of SkyShowtime Originals. The series combines gripping suspense with stunning, familiar Swedish locations and authentic police work to deliver a crime drama that is as captivating as it is believable. Joining our existing Swedish originaltitles such as the crime thriller Veronika, the comedy drama Where the Sun Always Shines (Där solen alltid skiner), and the upcoming The Trio (Trion) we’re thrilled to continue our collaborative approach, working closely with local creatives to bring powerful, original storytelling to life.’’

The series was created by Gunnar A.K. Järvstad (Garden Lane, Orca), who also wrote six of the eight episodes, with Axel Stjärne (The Glass Dome, Mafia) contributing two. Olof Spaak(Those Who Kill, The Thin Blue Line) serves as conceptual director and directs six episodes, while Caroline Ingvarsson (Unmoored) directs the remaining two. The series is produced by Sofie Palage and Niklas C. Siöström, with Johan Hedman as executive producer.
“Just like the series follows a travelling police unit, the team and cast behind the series will be travelling to Skåne, Norrbotten and Dalarna to film the various cases, and it feels so exciting that we’re now underway with our first leg! Our vision is to create a crime drama that is thrilling, visually rich and credible – while also moving the audience. We are so happy to have everyone involved in creating National Homicide Unit(Riksmord) (w/t), both in front of and behind the camera — as well as our wonderful collaboration with SkyShowtime. Now we truly look forward to bringing the story to life together.’’
