At the press conference held at detective Harry Hole‘s favorite haunt, restaurant Schrøder at St Hanshaugen in Oslo, Norway, Netflix today unveiled the stars of the upcoming Harry Hole Nordic Noir series, produced by Working Title. Titled ‘Detective Hole‘, the series is based on the Harry Hole books by celebrated Norwegian crime writer Jo Nesbø, and is written by Nesbø himself. Filming for the first season of the crime series begins on May 23, on location in Oslo, with release on the streaming platform in 2026.
Arriving in the prop cars used for the series, the Nordic star cast made a noteworthy entrance outside the restaurant, capturing the attention of the crowd. They were accompanied by Jo Nesbø and the series director, Øystein Karlsen (‘Exit’, ‘Dag’).

During the event, acclaimed Norwegian actor Tobias Santelmann (‘Exit’, ‘The Arctic Convoy’) was revealed to play the main character, detective Harry Hole; Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman (‘Altered Carbon’, ‘The Suicide Squad’) as the corrupt policeman Tom Waaler, and Norwegian actress Pia Tjelta (‘Made in Oslo’, ‘State of Happiness’) as Rakel Fauke.

Underneath the surface, this series is a nuanced character drama about two police officers – and supposed colleagues – operating on opposite sides of the law. Throughout the first season, Harry goes head-to-head with his long-time adversary and corrupt detective Tom Waaler. Harry is a brilliant but tormented homicide detective who struggles with his demons. As the two navigate the blurred ethical lines of the criminal justice system, Harry must do all he can to catch a serial killer and bring Waaler to justice before it is too late.
