Joel Kinnaman and Tobias Santelann in Netflix Harry Hole series 'Detective Hole'

Netflix has announced the wrap for the shooting of the upcoming nine-episode Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole Nordic noir thriller series featuring Tobias Santelmann (Exit, The Arctic Convoy), Joel Kinnaman (Altered Carbon, The Suicide Squad), and Pia Tjelta (Made in Oslo, State of Happiness). The series is based on the popular Harry Hole crime novels by acclaimed Norwegian bestselling author Jo Nesbø, who has penned the screenplay in addition to serving as the showrunner.

Rumors say it’s the longest shoot for a series filmed in Oslo, with over 113 days of filming across more than 160 locations in the Norwegian capital. Filming started on May 23, and the series is expected to be released on Netflix in 2026.

It is a great mix of a fast-paced whodunit and a genuine drama with real people and lives the viewer can relate to — and it has more twists and turns than I can remember having seen in any thriller series.”

About Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole Series

Created by one of the greatest storytellers in crime fiction, Jo Nesbø’s Harry Hole is a whodunnit serial killer mystery led by famed anti-hero Harry Hole. Underneath the surface, this series is a nuanced character drama about two police officers – and supposed colleagues – operating on opposite sides of the law. Throughout the first season, Harry goes head-to-head with his long-time adversary and corrupt detective Tom Waaler. Harry is a brilliant but tormented homicide detective who struggles with his demons. As the two navigate the blurred ethical lines of the criminal justice system, Harry must do all he can to catch a serial killer and bring Waaler to justice before it is too late.

“I’m guessing that all readers of the book series have their own vision of what Harry Hole would look like, and they should be allowed to keep that. We will create a Harry that is based not only on the books but someone based on the actor Tobias Santelmann and everyone involved in this project — both in front and behind the camera.”
