Netflix has announced that the acclaimed Danish Nordic noir crime thriller hit series The Chestnut Man will return to the streamer for its highly anticipated sequel The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek, premiering on May 7, 2026. Five years after the first season’s 2021 release, the six-part series reunites detective duo Mark Hess (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard) and Naia Thulin (Danica Curcic) for new tense investigations.

The sequel is adapted from Søren Sveistrup‘s 2024 novel Tælle til en, tælle til to (Hide and Seek). The first season was also based on Sveistrup’s bestselling novel The Chestnut Man, and became one of Netflix’s most successful Nordic crime dramas. In this new chapter, detectives Hess and Thulin pursue a killer staging a deadly game of hide and seek in the misty suburbs of Copenhagen.

Synopsis

A 41-year-old woman is reported missing, and when the police unravel her digital footprints, it becomes evident that she has been stalked for months. An unidentified perpetrator has been playing an involuntary game of hide and seek, surveilling her while sending her not only images and videos but also a seemingly innocent nursery rhyme-style counting song. When the woman is later found murdered, it becomes evident that this case can be linked to a similar, unsolved murder case of a 17-year-old high school student who was found murdered two years ago. But what is the connection between the two victims? And when will the perpetrator begin to “play” hide and seek again?

Mark Hess and Naia Thulin yet again lead the investigation, but the relationship between the two detectives is complicated.
