Originally written for radio by Maria Gripe and Kay Pollak in 1976, and later adapted into a successful novel by Gripe in 1978, the beloved Swedish classic Tordyveln flyger i skymningen(The Beetle Flies at Dusk) now returns as a mini-series, premiering on SVTPlay (streaming) in Sweden on July 11, and on SVT (broadcast) this fall.
“Several generations already have strong emotional ties to Maria Gripe and Kay Pollack’s story of the mystery in Ringaryd, which first began as a radio play and then became a best-selling book. The story is so vivid that many even believe they have seen a film version – but this is actually the first time that the mysterious universe has been portrayed and embodied for real. I am convinced that the series will become a new classic.“
Filmed in Västra Götaland, on the west coast of Sweden, the story unfolds in 1976 in the small village of Ringaryd in Småland, where three teenagers, Annika, Jonas, and David, discover a chest containing hidden letters in the attic of an abandoned estate. The letters reveal the tale of a 3,000-year-old Egyptian statue that vanished mysteriously, tied to a curse that triggers strange events as the past catches up. For Annika, Jonas, and David, it becomes an unforgettable summer filled with adventure, love, and a mystery greater than they could ever have imagined.

It had its own atmosphere, and there’s something timeless and distinctly Nordic about the story. Finally, we will bring this fantastic tale to life as a grand series for the whole family.“
