The European Film Academy has officially announced the nominees for the 37th European Film Awards, set to take place in Lucerne, Switzerland, on December 7, 2024. The event will be broadcast live across Switzerland and throughout Europe in partnership with the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR).

New regulations this year allow films in the European Documentary and European Animated Feature Film categories to also qualify for the European Film category.

Nordic nominations:

Best European Documentary (European Film)

No Other Land – A Palestinian-Norwegian documentary produced by Fabien Greenberg and Bård Kjøge Rønning at Antipode Films.

Best European Actress

Renate Reinsve for her role in the Norwegian film Armand, directed by Halfdan Ullman Tøndel.

Vic Carmen Sonne and Trine Dyrholm for their roles in the Danish film The Girl with the Needle, directed by Magnus von Horn.

Best European Screenwriter

Magnus von Horn and Line Langebek for The Girl with the Needle.

European Discovery – Prix FIPRESCI

Armand (Norway, Netherlands, Germany, Sweden) – Directed by Halfdan Ullman Tøndel, produced by Andrea Berentsen Ottmar.

European Young Audience Award

Lars is LOL (Norway, Denmark) – Directed by Eirik Sæter Stordahl, produced by Caroline Hitland & Matilda Appelin.

The Remarkable Life of Ibelin (Norway) – Directed by Benjamin Ree, produced by Ingvil Giske.

About the European Film Awards

The first edition of the European Film Awards was in Berlin in 1988. The aim of the awards is to promote and support the European film industry. They take place every other year in Berlin and move around Europe in the other years: London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Tallinn, Malta, Riga, Wroclaw, Seville, Reykjavík in 2022, and now Lucerne.
