Following Godland, which competed in Un Certain Regard in 2022, Icelandic filmmaker Hlynur Pálmason‘s latest film The Love That Remains (Original title: Ástin sem eftir er) has been selected for the Cannes Première section of the 78th Cannes Film Festival running from May 13-24, 2025, marking his second feature to be featured in Cannes’ Official Selection.
The Cannes Première is a prestigious non-competitive program within the festival’s Official Selection, showcasing significant films by established filmmakers that merit a high-profile platform but are not part of the main Competition.
Godland, which competed in Un Certain Regard in 2022, garnered several awards and was Iceland’s submission for the 2024 Academy Awards, where it was shortlisted. Additionally, Pálmason’s A White, White Day had its world premiere in the Critics’ Week section at Cannes in 2019.
