Modern Remake of Astrid Lindgren Classic

Modern Adaptation of Astrid Lindgren’s ‘Life on Seacrow Island’ by SF Studios and SVT

Created in the 1960’s, the timeless classic and highly treasured Swedish children’s series ‘Life on Seacrow Island‘ (original title: ‘Vi på Saltkråkan’) by celebrated author Astrid Lindgren (‘Pippi Longstocking’, ‘Ronja the Robber’s Daughter’), will be adapted to a new TV series produced by SF Studios and SVT (Sveriges Television) in cooperation with Beta Film Kids & Family.

Directed by Fredrik Edfeldt (‘The Girl’) and penned by renowned screenwriter Karin Arrhenius (‘Blackwater’), the 6-episode series unfolds in a contemporary context in the Stockholm archipelago. Filming will commence in June, with a scheduled release on SVT and SVT Play in Sweden in 2025.

“I am so happy to be able to spread Astrid Lindgren’s progressive perspective on children and celebration of nature in our time”

Fredrik Edfeldt, Director

About the TV Series

The new ‘Life on Seacrow Island’ is an entertaining feelgood story about togetherness and the adventures of summer. It is a humor filled series, but with an existential depth that comes with portraying genuine human beings. The series is largely built from the original series by Astrid Lindgren with her timeless and universal themes, and which has been one of the most popular Swedish series of all time.

The storyline follows the children of two very different families; one from the rural archipelago and one from the bustling city. Their lives are intertwined on the island during a long and memorable summer. The story is seen mainly from the children’s perspective where their clear, unobtrusive gaze rules the world and leads to imaginative and dramatic adventures.

“To be involved in preserving and renewing the free and wonderful universe of Life on Seacrow Island with all its colorful characters has been incredibly joyful”.

Karin Arrhenius, screenwriter
