At the Next on Netflix showcase event in Stockholm today, the global streaming platform presented an impressive line-up of 26 Nordic titles for the coming years. 12 of these are new titles. Among these are ‘Harry Hole‘, a series penned by the acclaimed Norwegian author Jo Nesbø himself, ‘The Key Series‘ by Alex Ahndoril, which is adapted into a film, and a series starring Carla Sehn based on Amanda Romare‘s Swedish auto-fictional debut ‘Diary of a Ditched Girl‘.
“The creative industry in the Nordic region is outstanding, with some of the most talented people in the world. We are both thrilled and proud of the fantastic shows we announced today at Next on Netflix. Our members can expect a wonderful mix of films, series, non-fiction, and other great stories from the Nordics.“
Jenny Stjernströmer Björk, Netflix Vice President Content Nordics
‘Harry Hole’ (working title) is based on Jo Nesbø’s novel ‘The Devil’s Star‘ (original title: ‘Marekors’) and will be directed by Øystein Karlsen (‘So Long Marianne’, ‘Exit’). During a heat wave in the peaceful summer holiday season in Oslo, police detective Harry Hole finds himself in a dire situation after being abandoned by his girlfriend. Hole investigates the murder of his police partner, which he believes is linked to a corrupt colleague, Tom Waaler. Still in its early stages, the cast for ‘Harry Hole’ has not been revealed. Produced by Working Title, the series is expected on Netflix in 2026.
In the coastal city of Malmö, in southern Sweden, a very different story unfolds during intense summer days of dating in ‘Diary of a Ditched Girl’ (working title), adapted from the novel ‘Halva Malmö består av killar som dumpat mig‘ by Amanda Romare. The series is directed by Emma Bucht (‘Odd Weeks’, ‘Love & Anarchy’) and Susanne Thorson (‘Leva Life’) and is expected in 2025. Key cast is Carla Sehn (‘Anxious People’, ‘Love & Anarchy’), and it’s produced by Jarowskij.
Based on the novel ‘Jag kommer at hitta nyckeln‘ by Alex Ahndoril (‘Lazarus’, The Hypnotist’), ‘The Key Series’ (working title) is a crime story about a murder investigation at a grand estate in the Swedish countryside. Hired by a wealthy family to solve a murder, private detective Julia Stark, and her ex-husband from the City Police investigate it while socializing and dining with each member of the family, trying to piece together the puzzle. Netflix has not yet announced the cast or when ‘The Key Series’ is expected on the streamer. The film is produced by Filmlance.
