With a record-breaking total of 7 awards, ‘Shame on Dry Land‘, a film written and directed by Axel Petersén, was the big winner of the 59th Guldbagge Awards ceremony held at Circus in Stockholm yesterday. The event was hosted by the Iranian-Swedish actress Shima Niavarani and broadcast live by Sveriges Television.
Best Picture of 2023 was awarded to ‘Paradise Is Burning‘ by Mika Gustavson (‘Mephobia’, ‘Silvana – väck mig när ni vaknat’, ’22nd May’). ‘The Gullspång Miracle‘ by Maria Fredriksson (‘Afternoon Tea’, ‘Elvakaffe’) won the prize for Best Documentary, and ‘Leila‘ by Fariba Haidari (‘The Scent of Dialogue’, ‘The Long Waiting Time’) for Best Short Film.
